A Beacon in the Storm
13,709 people found refuge at the Maplewood Memorial Library after Hurricane Sandy.
Hurricane Sandy hit Maplewood hard, leaving 90% of our town without electricity, heat, transportation, and communication. Maplewood Memorial Library provided warmth and shelter, and quickly became the town center. It was the main place where friends and neighbors gathered, worked, connected, and received reliable information from library staff and Township officials.
Maplewood Memorial Library extended its hours in the 12 days following the hurricane, doubling staff and working tirelessly to serve our community in its moment of need. Our library provided everything from computers and emergency information to games, books and floor space for children to play.
Have we ever appreciated our library more?
Maplewood Library was a beacon in the storm — a vital community resource in a time of great need. Now we are asking all Maplewood residents to be there for the library. Would you give a little extra this year, to support the library?
The Maplewood Memorial Library Board of Trustees thanks you!
