Hilton Branch Library
Any person who lives, works, pays taxes or attends school in Maplewood
is entitled to a library card. Students in Maplewood/South Orange public schools are
entitled to a card. Apply at either library with proof of residence,
employment in town, or school enrollment. Non-resident cards are $80 per year,
or $40 for senior citizens (62 and up).

New titles are shelved near the circulation desks.
Most periodicals may be borrowed for 14 days, except the latest issue, which
does not circulate.
A wide selection of music CDs are available, and may be borrowed for 14 days.

Circulating collections of the spoken word on audio cassette and CD are
available at both buildings..
A nominal charge of $1.00 per title borrowed (or 50¢ for children's items)
goes into
an insurance account to cover damaged tapes.
Both libraries offer a generous selection of adult and children's
DVDs and videos, which are loaned for a fee of $1.00 per day. (No charge for days the library is closed.)
Family (rated G or PG) and special interest videos/DVDs circulate free for one
week. After the first week they are also $1.00 per day. All DVDs and
videos should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed.
Popular, current best-sellers are available for a rental fee of 25¢ per day,
with no charge for days the library
is closed.
Each charge desk has a book return slot. Both Main and Hilton Branch
Libraries have outside depositories accessible from the parking lots. Library
materials may
be returned to either branch. The computer will record overdue fines or other
unpaid charges.
Books or other items may be renewed in person, or over
the phone (when the library is open). Items may also be renewed via our
online catalog, by going to your Patron
Record. Items on reserve may not be renewed.
Adult materials are $.20 per day, children's materials $.10 per day. There
are no overdue charges for days the library is closed.
Books may be recommended or reserved in person at our Information Desk,
or by using our online catalog. If
the Library owns the book, find the book in the catalog, bring up the full
record, and click the button at the top right that says
"request". If the library does not own the book, you may request
it by filling out our "Recommend
a Book to Purchase" form.
Interlibrary loan requests may also be made in person or online, courtesy of a system provided by the N.J. State Library.
Professional librarians are available at all times to aid you in finding
appropriate reading and research materials, and to help you make full use
of your library. We are also happy to answer your questions via e-mail.
Interactive search assistance on the web is also available 24 hours a day from live librarians at QandANJ, a service of the NJ Library Network.
Limited borrowing privileges are available at most other Essex County libraries
when you use a Reciprocal Borrowing Libraries (ReBL) card. Apply for your
ReBL card at any circulation desk.
Maplewood Memorial Library's membership in the Eastern NJ Regional Library Cooperative (Infolink) and JerseyCat, the computerized statewide union catalog, makes the resources of many other collections available to you. Ask for details.
Notary service is available at the Main Library during regular business hours. Please call ahead to make sure the Notary is available. There is a charge of $2.50 per signature.
Meeting rooms are available for use by the community. The Library does not advocate or endorse the viewpoints of any group using the Library's meeting rooms.
