Main Library maintains a variety of historical resources. The Maplewood File is an extensive collection of printed material dating back to the 1800s and includes newspaper clippings, brochures, etc. There are real estate maps from the early years of the 20th century, and local city directories from 1888-1970. Real estate files from the mid-20th century provide historical information about local homes. See the Reference Librarian to access these and other resources.

The Hilton Branch houses an additional Maplewood archive, the Robert H. Grasmere Local History Center, overseen by the Durand Hedden House and Garden Association.  Collections, which include documents, photos, maps and two-dimensional memorabilia, may be viewed by the public by appointment.  Please call 973-763-7712.
