Elmore Leonard 1925-2013

Elmore Leonard, the prolific and popular author of over one hundred novels, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013. He was 87. Known mostly for his pithy crime writing, Leonard also wrote westerns and a series of novels about Cuba.  Many of his stories and novels have been made into successful films, including Get Shorty, Out of Sight, and 3:10 to Yuma.  In 2007, Leonard wrote 10 Rules of Writing. The slim volume garnered faint praise from writers looking for tips, but those of us who are Leonard fans smiled and nodded as we read the simple guidelines that make his writing so clear, tight and enjoyable.  He and his work will be missed.
