After graduating from college with a degree in literature, Rita came to New York City to study English Education. She has been teaching juniors and seniors at a high performing public school in Flatiron since 2004 and has helped thousands of kids edit their essays, uncover scholarships, and locate the right schools. Rita is a New Visions fellow, an Academy for Teachers fellow, a Fulbright finalist and recipient of multiple classroom awards and recognitions. Her work focuses on advocating for student access to advanced coursework, high level thinking, and college resources. Most importantly, she is mom to two creative and passionate Marshall Jefferson students whose grammar she tries not to correct. When not commuting, she can be found biking with her children, practicing yoga at Baker St yoga or drinking Fez tea at The Able Baker, known affectionately as “her office.”
