Hilton BranchThe Value Proposition: Why Do People Say Yes?

The essence of marketing is the message. The essence of the message is the value proposition. Learn how to articulate a forceful value proposition so that clients, hiring managers or decision-makers can determine how you align with the needs of their organizations. The presentation includes both the conceptual and practical aspects of the value proposition, including its 4-part structure, methods for intensifying the force of the statement, and techniques for deploying a well-crafted value proposition across print, online, and verbal channels.

Presenter Chip Hartman was one of four lead web developers who built AT&T’s first internal news portal, The InfoCenter@AT&T. His business, ChipHartman.com, provides branding and value proposition development services.

Network with other professionals who are currently unemployed or looking for new career opportunities. Meetings alternate between guest speakers and career workshops. Programs are free and open to the public. Subscribe to the group here.

Pride Month 2017 banner

The Grass is Gayer OUT in the Suburbs

Monday, June 19

7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Main Library – Maplewood Library is celebrating Pride Month with a special program featuring field notes from life in the burbs: readings and musings by local writers Peggy Hannis, Doreen C. Jones and Robert Shaffron. The women’s a cappella group Olympia’s Daughters will provide musical entertainment, singing songs of liberation. Co-sponsored by North Jersey Pride. Refreshments will be served. Free — and open to everyone!

Peggy HannisPeggy Hannis is a Nationally Certified Sign Language Interpreter, and has been earning a living as an interpreter for 32 years. As a hobby she has been a singer and performer for more than 20 years. A self-proclaimed choir geek, she spends much of her free time running to rehearsals and performances from up in Teaneck, and down to Asbury Park. She has recently began exploring story telling, which she finds far more terrifying than singing to large crowds. She moved to South Orange in 2014 with her two teenage daughters, and is feeling right at home in our diverse and artsy community.

Robert ShaffronRobert Shaffron and his husband John are permitted to remain in their Maplewood residence through the generosity of their two magnificent sons, Benjamin and Jordan.  Robert has been, variously, a playwright, an advertising creative director, stock boy, dishwasher, actor/waiter, and is currently a stay-at-home LGBT activist. He also bakes a wicked lemon square.

Doreen ChilaDoreen C. Jones is a freelance writer whose comedic stylings can be found in NY Dogs, Hot Guys ABZ and Say What? 700 Quotes That Should Never Have Been Said. While Doreen specializes in the humor genre her offerings on children with special needs are gaining attention. Ms. Jones musings can also be found in Matters Magazine and her daily blog mamasucksblog.wordpress.com.

Chef Jesse Author Talk, Tasting & Book Launch

Saturday, December 16

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Main Library – Chef Jesse Jones and Linda Eckhardt are proud to announce their new cookbook-memoir which offers 40 of Chef Jesse’s favorite feasts, along with the story of his life.

Chef Jesse Jones’s story is honest and heartfelt as he describes how the kitchen saved him from the streets. When he used his hard-won French     technique to make Southern fried chicken, then served it alongside his sweet potato waffles, all his diners could say was POW!

Chef Jesse is a gifted American chef who has owned his own restaurant, cooked in five-star restaurants, and cheffed for celebrities. He gives himself to charity events, to teaching kids to cook, and to encouraging everybody to get in the kitchen and cook.

“It’s the actual celebration of Chef Jesse’s way of life…through delicious food. We are all so fortunate to take a peek into the life of one of America’s    finest chefs and, more importantly, to share a little of his bon vivant personality.” -Thomas Griffiths, CMC, Campbell’s Global Culinary Institute

Special guest appearance by award-winning cookbook author Linda Eckhardt.
