Fairy House Workshop

Therese Ojibway, maker of the fairy houses in the South Mountain Reservation, will guide participants in the construction of their own fairy houses. Bring a few ecofriendly materials (no plastic!) — such as shells, stones, feathers, twigs — and hammer and nails.

Community Meeting: Presentation of Conceptual Design

Main Library – Sage and Coombe Architects, who have been hired by the Maplewood Library Board of Trustees to design a Library for the Future, will present their conceptual design to the public.

The design was developed taking into consideration input from extensive meetings with focus groups, an open community forum and an online survey to which over 500 people responded.

The architects will give an overview of the process, discuss design considerations, and present their concepts for a library that will meet the needs of the community for  years to come.

Free and open to the public. Registration is not needed.

Read Around the World: North Korea

Main Library – This month’s book is The Accusation by Bandi. The seven stories that make up The Accusation give voice to people living under the most bizarre and horrifying of dictatorships. The book is a vivid depiction of life in a closed-off one-party state, and also a hopeful testament to the humanity and rich internal life that persists even in such inhumane conditions.

Explore thought-provoking fiction from around the globe. Our Read Around the World book club meets once a month to discuss titles from foreign locales.  All titles are available from Maplewood Library or through the BCCLS consortium. No registration needed.
