Green Guidelines and Initiatives
- Recycle containers will be used throughout the Library for staff and patrons
- Mugs and other re-usable items will be used for meetings and events instead of disposable items
- The Library will partner with businesses and organizations to promote and publicize recycling and the Library’s commitment to recycling.
- Decorations in the Library will be created largely from used materials such as old flyers, CD’s, discarded magazines, etc.
- The Library will offer programs highlighting recycling, up-cycling, repurposing etc.
- Coloring pages in the Children’s Rooms will be half pages and will be available upon request.
- Sign holders will be reusable.
- Computers will be powered down every night.
- The Library will issue an e-newsletter.
- The Library has bike racks at both locations to encourage that mode of transportation.
- Library staff is encouraged to bring beverages in reusable containers.
- Bins are available to recycle plastic grocery bags at Hilton Library. Bags are sent to the recycling center.
- Light sensors have been installed in all bathrooms in the Library.
- The Library will participate in the Township’s annual Green Day.
- The Library will offer current, up-to-date information in books and other media on green initiatives that educate and inform and further the goal of the Township of Maplewood to be a “Green Community”.
