November Art & Music

Ben Lowy photo

Main Library – Our November art exhibit features the photography of Ben Lowy, an award-winning photographer who covers major stories worldwide.  His images of Iraq are some of the most iconic of the 21st Century.  His image from Hurricane Sandy was the first iPhone photo to grace the cover of Time magazine.  Ben started as a conflict photographer, covering Iraq and Afghanistan.  He was one of the early adopters of camera phone photography, and tests new technologies to push the boundaries of photography.

The November exhibit is Life During Wartime: iPhone Images from Afghanistan.  After more than 30 years of war in Afghanistan, the obstinate violence no longer represents an assault on daily life.  Rather, life, in its obstinacy, represents a daily assault on the violence.   A reception with live music will take place Saturday, November 15 at 1:00, and will feature the Maplewood Community Music Trombone Quartet playing military marches, patriotic medleys, and numbers from the war years.  Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.  Visit benlowy.com.
