Established in 1942, Friends of the Maplewood Library (a 501(c)(3) organization) is a group of your friends and neighbors who have joined together to support the activities and programs of the Maplewood Memorial Library.

Friends are committed to:

  • Raising funds to support library programs and enhance library services through membership dues, semi-annual book sales, tributes and special gifts.

  • Promoting and improving library services in both the Main and Hilton branches of our library.

  • Guaranteeing that the library has a strong base of community support.

  • Advocating in the community for the maintenance of high-quality library services.

Friends have supported the Library by:

  • Sponsoring the Children’s/Teens’ Summer Reading Program, which is instrumental in encouraging hundreds of children and teens to develop a lifelong love of the enjoyment of reading.

  • Funding major improvements. Looking forward to the 21st century library, the Friends plan to make a substantial gift to the capital campaign.

  • Sponsoring the museum pass program.

  • Contributing funds for the purchase of books, media, equipment, and new innovations.

  • Presenting special events and programs of interest to the community, including author talks, musical performances, children’s programs and the annual Ideas Festival.

  • Providing funds for the professional development of the library staff.
